Hands dirty for a good cause
RUIMSIG - Tsakani Primary School classrooms revamped, thanks to Silverstar employees who dedicated their time to ensure that the initiative went ahead.
Silverstar staff recently dedicated their time to refresh the classrooms of Tsakani Primary School in Kagiso.
“We cleaned and painted classrooms and donated approximately R12 000 toward this initiative to celebrate Mandela Day,” said Carin Furstenburg, Corporate Social Investments (CSI) administrator at Silverstar.
Kagiso community members volunteered to prepare the classrooms for painting ahead of the time and were also there on the day to assist Silverstar staff together with pupils and parents, who pitched in to finish the job.
Women of the community prepared traditional food on an open fire for all the volunteers to keep them fortified.
Tsakani Primary School is situated in Silverstar’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Investment (CSI) catchment area.
Besides donations, Silverstar’s CSI initiatives also include a sports development programme in the Munsieville, Kagiso and Swaneville communities of Mogale City as well as an annual donation to the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans.
“We had lots of fun on the day and were inspired by the sense of pride the community has towards the school and their enthusiasm to give the classrooms a new lease on life,” said Furstenburg.
