Capoeira Cidade de Ouro to host Mozambican teacher

A weekend workshop in capoeira will be held in Florida this August.

The Capoeira Cidade de Ouro collective is to host a Mozambican Capoeira master this August.

Mestre (Portuguese for master) Lagarto and his delegation will be joining the group on Friday 1 to Sunday 3 August for a Capoeira workshop. The workshop will be held at the Bodyline Health Studio in Goldman Street, Florida.

Capoeira is an African martial arts form that has its origins in Brazil where African slaves practiced it to escape their circumstances.

The workshop was organised through Cidade de Ouro and the South African Capoeira Foundation in partnership with Casa da Capoeira, another Johannesburg group.

“We’re excited to welcome our brothers from Maputo.

“We’re sure to learn a lot between the different groups,” said Kevin Jackson, Cidade de Ouro teacher and manager.

The workshop will run on Friday 1 August from 7pm until 9pm and on Saturday 2 August from 9am until 12 noon, after which a braai will be held. On Sunday 3 August the workshop will resume from 9am until 12 noon and a lunch is scheduled for 3pm.
