North West side trumps Natal United

The Second Division, ABC Motsepe League play-offs are underway.

North West side Steach United managed to acquire their first win of the SAFA Second Division/ABC Motsepe League play-offs by defeating Natal United 2-0 on Thursday.

It took only three minutes for the victors to rattle their opposition after Sandile Sithole turned his shot onto the crossbar, before Kelfiwe Buthulezi and Mbekezeli Dlamini followed up with two good chances after that.

Natal United suffered a setback five minutes before half time when Lizo Mthabela received a straight red card for an overly robust challenge, and it opened the doors for Steach to take control.

It went from bad to worse for Natal when they found themselves trailing by a goal with an hour on the clock courtesy of an own goal by Samkelo Sibisi, who put the ball into his own net from close range under pressure from a Steach attacker.

Sithole, who saw his shot beaten away in the 70th minute by the opposition ‘keeper, made no mistake when he doubled the lead six minutes before the end of the game. He slammed a powerful shot into the roof of the net from the right hand side of the box.

Other results saw Cape Town All Stars fall to a surprise 0-2 defeat to Apollo, while Angavu Stars edged out Sibanye Golden Stars 2-1.
