No more potholes in Van Dalen Road

RUIMSIG - Van Dalen Road was infested with potholes before JRA stepped in this week to repair the badly maintained road.

RUIMSIG – Earlier in June, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) started on a project to repair some of the major roads in Joburg that were badly affected by potholes.

The problem, however, was that smaller roads had to take a back seat and wait for the bigger roads to be repaired first, one of them being Van Dalen Road South in Ruimsig.

According to Ward 97 councillor Jaco Engelbrecht, the road has been infested with potholes and left in a neglected state for the last year.

“The roads entity started with Hole-In-One Avenue which was a bigger project and took a bit longer. They have, however, received a budget to complete Hole-In-One and Van Dalen Road South before the end of July.”

Engelbrecht gave a bit of background as to what motorists in the area had to face daily on their way to and from their homes.

“Van Dalen Road South leads to a couple of residential complexes in the area and it gets very busy. The road used to be full of potholes that caused motorists to swerve to avoid the potholes.”

He added that it was a miracle that not one accident occured on this road during the last year.

During an on-site visit, JRA supervisor Samuel Mohale explained that the project was moving along swiftly and that the road should be completely resurfaced before the end of July.

“My team is working hard to ensure that the project is completed as fast as possible without making any mistakes that will slow us down or force us to redo a piece of the road.”

Engelbrecht urges motorists to remain calm during the roadworks on Van Dalen Road South.

Newly resurfaced Van Dalen Road South is a welcomed sight for residents in the area.
