Local tennis star off to New Orleans

Tennis talent needs funding for trip.

Whiteridge resident and pupil at Laerskool Generaal Christiaan de Wet, Abner Dickson, has been selected to represent Tennis South Africa (TSA) in New Orleans in the USA.

The 12-year-old was selected after her excellent performance at the TSA Primary School Week in Bloemfontein from 28 March to 1 April. In New Orleans Abner will participate in the team event at a junior tournament as well as attend a top tennis academy. The tour will take place from 16 to 28 August.

TSA unfortunately can not support an undertaking of this magnitude because of the demands on their resources and have asked individuals, institutions and businesses to help the young tennis player with funding for the trip. The cost of R25 000 includes air fares, accommodation, training and equipment.

Any person or organisation that wishes to contribute to Abner’s once-in-a-lifetime opportunity can contact her father Grant Dickson on 072 661 3274 or her mother Astrid Dickson on 076 244 7809.
