Cotter thinks Boks are “massive challenge”

Scottish Coach Cotter knows his team are punching above their weight but is positive anyway.

Scotland coach Vern Cotter expects a massive uphill battle against the Springboks in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, but believes his side is up for the challenge.

Cotter measures games against South Africa as the benchmark in rugby and knows his side will have their backs against the walls, but believes his players can mix it with the best in the world.

“I’ve always regarded playing South Africa in South Africa as the benchmark,” said Cotter.

“It’s a massive challenge and it gives our boys an opportunity to lift their level.

“We have got good rugby players.

“If we can make accurate choices in the way we play and impose our form of rugby then I think that will be a shift in the right direction.

“I’ve been pleased with the initiative that’s developing within the team.

“We’re starting to get good variety in our game. Now it’s a matter of seeing if we can do it against very good opposition.”

Scotland will come into the match against South Africa in a positive mind frame after beating Argentina last weekend 21-19. That was preceded with 19-17 victory over Canada.
