AmaZulu stars turn focus to World Cup

"Argentina stand a very good chance of taking this World Cup": former Bafana player.

Some of AmaZulu’s Absa Premiership stars have turned their attention to the FIFA World Cup and which country they feel will win gold.

Midfielder Ruzaigh Gamildien, who has played for Bafana Bafana before, has put his faith in Argentina.

“I think Argentina stand a very good chance of taking this World Cup. They played well in 2010 until they lost to Germany but I think they have grown a lot since then,” he says.

“They have one of the best players in the world in Lionel Messi and he is surrounded by exciting players like Angel di Maria and Sergio Aguero. I think this is their moment.

“Playing in South America will also favour them because they’ll get good support.”

But Nkosinathi Mthiyane has given his backing to host nation Brazil, saying: “It’s hard to go against Brazil taking this title based on the team they have selected and how they have been playing leading up to the tournament.

“They have individual stars like Neymar Junior and Oscar but they have also proven that they can play as a team. Their form and the massive home ground advantage they will get makes them clear favourites to win this World Cup.”

What about striker Bongani Ndulula? He reckons Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal will take the crown.

“I know many people are tipping Brazil but I think they’ll be under too much pressure and crack. I think Portugal may start slowly like Spain did here but if they go game by game they have the potential to go all the way.

“If they reach the semi-finals then you can expect a player like Cristiano Ronaldo to produce some magic and take them all the way. I also have to mention Spain because people are writing them off and I think they are still a strong team.”
