SA to defend golf title in Kenya

"I believe we have chosen the strongest team possible": coach.

Magda Kruger, Michaela Fletcher and Cara Gorlei will represent South Africa when they defend the All-Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya from 10 to 12 June.

The event will also carry World Amateur Golf ranking points and South Africa will look to continue their dominance having won the tournament every year since 1992, except for 1996, when they were ousted by Egypt.

Women’s Golf South Africa president Karen Olivant believes the country will be well-represented as Kruger is ranked second on the WGSA standings, while Fletcher and Gorlei are third and sixth, respectively.

“I believe we have chosen the strongest team possible to drive our title defence in Kenya,” Olivant said.

“Magda, Michaela and Cara have all claimed individual victories this season and they are quite determined to uphold South Africa’s proud tradition in the event.

“However, the AACT brings together the best amateur golfers throughout Africa and the team will definitely face some stiff competition.”

The South African ladies will compete with 16 other countries as Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe have all confirmed their entry.
