100 km walk against rhino poaching
A long walk for a big cause – Francois Myburgh hopes to raise R100 000.
Francois Myburgh (24) welcomes all the help he can get when walks from Witpoortjie to Brits (North West) to create awareness about rhino poaching.
Myburgh who is an entrepreneur previously became involved with Ebenezer House, a home for psychologically ill persons based in Witpoortjie. This year, he wants to take a stand against rhino poaching and hopes to raise funds for rhino conservation.
Myburgh is planning his walk to take place from 8 July until 11 July during which he will walk around 100 km – 25 kilometres per day.
“I will be donating the funds I raise to the Kruger National Park where I want to see rhinos’ safety improved,” he says.
“I’m against poaching as it is a cruel way to end the lives of such beautiful creatures.
“It’s a serious crime, it comes down to murder, and I would like to see poachers imprisoned for life.”
He does not mind walking in winter for a good cause, but will need proper walking shoes, clothing, water and accommodation. He is asking the community to contribute by sponsoring the necessities for the trip or the number of kilometres he completes. His will start his journey in Gerrit Maritz Street in Witpoortjie. He hopes to be able to donate R100 000 to the Kruger National Park by end July.
