Hillfox cricketers win gold at inter provincials
WELTERVREDEN PARK – Hillfox Action Sports Arena's U16 cricketers brought home gold after competing in the Inter-Provincial Tournament.
Hillfox Action Sport Arena’s Western Gauteng U16 cricket team won gold at this year’s Inter-Provincial Tournament held at the Sandton Arena.
From the Western Gauteng team, five children made it in the All Stars team, namely Kyle Newberry, Charl du Toit, Ernus van der Merwe, Cameron Brunner and Jaun-Pierre van Rensburg.
“These are the top 10 children in their age group at the tournament. Four of these children, Kyle Newberry, Charl du Toit, Ernus van der Merwe and Cameron Brunner got picked for the South African Camp which will host trials at the end of June,” said Western Gauteng’s junior action cricket coordinator Debbie Newberry.
“All the players in the team play in the men’s league at the Hillfox Action Sport Arena as Young Guns and they are currently top of the log. We are sure that the exposure and experience they have gained playing against older players contributed to their success in the provincial tournament,” Newberry added.
She said if selected, the players will travel to Australia next year to participate in the Junior World Cup and that the arena wishes them luck in that endeavour.
