Substations in Princess in shocking state

Illegal connections and vandalism at the order of the day.

For more than a month Princess resident Rob Harwood has been reporting a disaster waiting to happen but to no avail.

Harwood became aware of the problem, when like other residents in the area, he started to get electric shocks when showering and washing dishes. Various electrical appliances in his house also were damaged and burned out.

Harwood called his private electrician to investigate. It was found that there was no earth to the house’s electrical supply. Also, the problem did not stem from Harwood’s property. On further investigation the electrician discovered that the substation in Sadie Road has been vandalised severely. The doors had been broken open and anyone can access the station. Inside the substation the earth wires had been stolen. Various live wires are open and it is extremely dangerous to move around in the substation; a person accidentally might touch one of these live wires.

Harwood says that he reported the problem around six or eight times to City Power. They came out but said it is not their problem but his.

The substation is still in the same state and City Power has done nothing to mend the problem or secure the station.

The same problem exists at at least two other substations in the area and there were countless illegal electrical connections.

Since these substations are very close to Princess High School, Harwood is concerned that a child might wander in and get hurt or killed.
