What is the WRAPD?

It protects the interests of the disabled.

The West Rand Association for the Physically Disabled is situated in Wheeler Street, Krugersdorp.

Their mission is to promote the treatment, education, training, employment and general welfare of persons with disabilities. They try to achieve this by educating and raising awareness in the public, and by lobbying for the rights of people with disabilities.

Founded in 1947, it has 40 full-time staff members, volunteers and parents dedicated to fulfil the needs of multi-disabled persons in the area.

It boasts a residential facility as well as a day care centre that caters for 35 severely mentally and physically disabled children between the ages of three and 16 from disadvantaged communities.

They have approximately 600 clients from Roodepoort, Randfontein, Westonaria, Bekkersdal and Krugersdorp. It is the only facility of its kind on the West Rand.

Any person with a disability is welcome to contact them on 011 660 7964.
