Following the shoot out between of Okkie Nel, the director of the security company Bestsecure, with suspected criminals, the community has been cautioned. Louis Grobler of Security in Practice cautioned other residents to never attempt to exchange fire with criminals. “Only do that if you are properly trained, it could go wrong and those criminals are normally heavily armed,” warned Grobler.
On 29 March at around 1.30 am Nel was patrolling around Quellerina in Florida, when he noticed a suspicious vehicle. “I believe I disturbed them, it looked like they were about to do a house robbery or break in,” said the security guard. According to director the criminals then started firing shots at him and he immediately fired back at them. “Luckily I didn’t get any injuries but my vehicle took the knock.” The alleged criminals escaped.
