Following an increase in robberies at filling stations around the Honeydew Precinct, owners and managers are urged to ensure that they have adequate security in place at all times. “Please test the security on a regular base to ensure that your panic buttons are working also ensure that you have all the emergency numbers visible for your staff members in case of an emergency, especially after hours,” said spokesperson for Honeydew Police Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs.
Extra Safety tips she shared:
- Try to avoid the accumulation of large amounts of cash in cash registers, make use of drop safes.
- Keep lines of observation in the business open.
- Where possible make use of CCTV cameras that are strategically installed near the exit, entrances and cash registers.
- Keep the premises well-illuminated, also on the outside.
- Sensitize your employees to be extra vigilant especially at night and to report all suspicious people or vehicles immediately to your security company or the police.
