A champion from Weltevreden Park Primary
WELTEVREDEN PARK - Pupil's hard work pays off.
Weltevreden Park Primary School boasts it’s first ever gold medal for the athletics competition of the primary schools in the country. It is all thanks to the record breaker who is Grade 5 pupil, Alison Visser, who represented the school exceptionally well.
This year’s primary school athletic season ended with the championships held in Paarl, Western Cape.
Visser won the U11 girls 1 200m in 3 minutes 52 seconds and became the first pupil ever from the Weltevreden Park Primary school, to win a gold medal at the South African Championships.
After the record breaker, Visser, was welcomed back to school by 1350 pupils in what one teacher described as a “true Welties fashion”.
“We are very proud of Alison and her coach, Quintus Writes, a teacher at the school. Together they have spent months preparing. The hard work has now paid off,” said the principal of the school Lex Morton.
