Park Run to host family fun day

The aim of which is to get residents involved in Len Rutter Park.

Park Runners who partake in the weekly event at Len Rutter Park in Florida want to boost community involvement in, and enjoyment of the Park by hosting a family fun day on Saturday 26 April.

The event doubles as a celebration of the second birthday of Park Run, for which the Keg and Legend in Horizon View is donating a special birthday cake.

The local branch currently boasts 300 runners a week.”We started off with 15 runners so to have grown to this large number of regular participants is quite an achievement for us,” said Brett Michael Nietsky. On the Saturday at 6.30 am volunteers will already be cleaning up the park for the events to follow.

Residents can join in on the fun from 9 am.Nietsky mentioned that among the many exciting activities to take place are castle jumping for the children, a performance by the local Capoeristas (an African martial arts form) and demonstrations from a Karate Dojo. Boerewors rolls will be sold and the Park Runners will be collecting items for Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora).

“Park Run is only a catalyst for this community event… we want others to enjoy the park as much as we do and to use it to further the community’s interests,” Nietsky said.

“It would be sad to see yet another community park deteriorate because there are not regular events held there for residents’ enjoyment.”This will also be the 50th Park Run for some of our participants, which we celebrate greatly.”Residents can register to participate in Park Run for free on their website, www.parkrun.co.za,” said NietskyFor more information, contact Brett Michael Nietsky on 082 686 1314 or Philip Gray on 083 668 2130.
