Orchid Show a success
EMMARENTIA - Beautiful orchids bring a crowd out to the Botanice Gardens.

The Witwatersrand Orchid Society (WOS) hosted their Autumn Flower Show at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens from 21 – 23 March. The event was well attended, especially on Friday, which was a free day for pensioners. Growers displayed their award winning plants while cellist Susan Mouton serenaded those in attendance. There was a practical potting exhibition each day which showed budding greenthumbs how to properly pot an orchid, what size pot to use, how to clean its roots and similar things.
The Witwatersrand Orchid Society (WOS) is one of the oldest orchid societies in South Africa, having been formed in 1964, under its original name of The Transvaal Orchid Society. It aims to promote knowledge and protection of orchids among the general public. The WOS meet on the last Sunday of every month at the Floreum in the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens at 2.30 pm. Guests are encouraged to come out and learn more about orchids.
