Toastmasters make the Irish connection

The Toastmasters also explored Irish culture following St Patrick's Day.

The love of exploring Irish culture around the time of St Patrick’s Day (17 March) spilled over to the Florida Toastmasters meeting of Tuesday 18 March.

Toastmaster Michael Glencross looked at some of the traditional lore surrounding St Patrick’s Day. His talk was followed by an educational session presented by Toastmasters Ambassador Max Kaan, titled The revitalised education programme. The presentation highlighted how goals are to meet the needs of the members and spread the word about its benefits for other Toastmasters.

Ailsa Campbell followed with her speech titled Little victories, with which she encouraged her audience to make a personal commitment to developing and strengthening their self-discipline. She advised the audience, “Do exercises that enhance your self-discipline as it is in the best interest of every person to come to grips with their weaknesses and be victorious over them”.

Paul Jensen’s speech reminded his audience that computers don’t make mistakes but that people make assumptions, with the support of the general metaphor of the brain as ‘computer’.

Michael Glencross won the trophy for the Best Prepared Speech at the meeting. Tim Knights won the Best Evaluator trophy for giving well-constructed positive feedback. The Toastmasters will compete in an Area Speech Contest on Wednesday 9 April at MTN from 7pm.
