Local author donates books to school

Current books aimed at young adults and children were donated to Laerskool Elspark recently.

On Friday 7 March Florida Hills author Carlyle Labuschagne, who is very passionate about libraries, arrived at Laerskool Elspark in Germiston, laden with books. She was inspired to include the school in her Help Build a Library in Africa project after a teacher approached her about it. The teacher explained that one of her pupils, Samantha Lewis, was excited to meet Carlyle after the young author launched a writing mentorship programme at Avalon School in Ruimsig earlier this year,” said Cathy Grosvenor of Allycats on behalf of Labuschagne.

“It was unfortunate that Labuschagne could not include Samantha in the programme as she is not an Avalon pupil – but Carlyle later offered to publish Samantha’s writing on her own blog on her official website.

“Donations of books are always welcomed and you can help Laerskool Elspark by donating books towards other school libraries,” Labuschagne said.

“Most schools do not have eBook reading facilities yet, so we can accept only good quality second-hand books or new paperback books aimed at young adults or children.”

For more information about the project, email Carlyle at carlylelabuschagne.com@gmail.com or visit her website.
