Become a better competitor — Florida TM

The Toastmasters teach and learn competitive speaking.

“At our meeting on Tuesday 4 March our members were encouraged to expand their comfort zone and embrace the opportunity to compete,” Florida Toastmasters public relations officer Dawn Hemming told the Record.

The speech contest season is upon the Florida Toastmasters Club. As part of the Toastmasters experience, members are offered the opportunity to grow their skills in the contest environment as a challenge is stimulating, explains Hemming.

Hemming says that the Toastmasters believe that competing calls on a person to become a better speaker as it sparks your competitive spirit and creativity.

To this end the Toastmasters included another educational session in their last meeting titled ‘The Contest Speech’, which was presented by Tim Knights.

“Knights gave the members more intense and focused feedback in order to motivate them to push themselves.”

These practical skills will be applied during the Florida Toastmasters’ prepared speech contest.

The speech contest is on Tuesday 1 April and residents are invited to join the members on the day. For further details, contact Tim Knights on 082 894 7542 or via email at timknights@telkomsa.net.
