Honeydew Police released their crime overview for January 2014.
Sector 3 chairperson Daniel Smith said that there had been a marked increase in burglaries at residential properties and hijackings in the Honeydew area.
“According to the figures and cases that get reported to the police, Thursdays are when the most crimes occur. And most of these crimes happen between 4pm and 8pm,” said Smith.
He added that burglaries at businesses are at an all-time high in Weltevreden Park and Laser Park.
“Residents should be on the lookout and cautious as hijackings are on the increase in Weltevreden Park and Allen’s Nek,” Smith said.
Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin said, “According to these figures Weltevreden Park and parts of Wilgeheuwel have seen an increase in the theft of motor vehicles and motor cycles, and residents should report cases of theft to their closest police station immediately.”
Smith said a Sector 3 monthly meeting would take place on Wednesday 12 March at 6.30pm at the Struben’s Valley Library in Fredenharry Road. A domestic workers’ meeting will take place at the same venue on the same day at around 3pm.
