Empowering communities one seed at a time

FLORIDA PARK - Reverend’s self-sustainability project bears fruit.

Township living is difficult, and it’s the women and children who often have to bear the brunt of it.

Reverend Harry Heydon from Peniel Ministries in Florida Park wants to lighten their load.

He has been honoured with the Nedbank Local Hero Award twice and launched the Mustard Seed self-sustainability project through his ministry.

Peniel Ministries is also part of the non-profit Unashamedly Ethical, a campaign promoting ethics, values and clean living in South Africa.

This project aims to educate people in townships and rural areas on subjects like HIV/Aids and that raping a virgin will not cure the disease.

The initiative also provides free training on how to grow a vegetable garden to feed a family or to earn extra income. Training in basic medical care using on-hand household materials is part of the course too.

Peniel Training Centre offers this course to any person or persons who will carry the training to their communities and beyond.

“The late Nelson Mandela was very staunch in his belief that education is the key to bring positive change to individuals and a nation,” said Rev Heydon.

“This community training has the capability to begin the change President Mandela sought.”
