City Power not responding to dangerous situation at school

Uncertainty over whether electricity cable lying at school gate is live or not.

A concerned and irate resident has drawn the Record’s attention to a potentially life-threatening situation close to Florida Primary School.

In the early morning hours of 5 March inclement weather caused branches to break off trees in Rose Street, which fell on the overhead electricity cables and snapped it.

This cable, which the Record could not establish whether it was live or not, was lying within a few feet of the back gate of the school.

When the Record visited the school at 3pm, employees of the school, on their way home, were shocked when they saw what had happened, realising that just a few hours before pupils walked past and over these cables in their way home.

The resident who complained also told the Record that the street had been without power since 5am that morning but regardless of numerous calls to City Power in order to report the problem, nothing had been done.

The Record got hold of City Power’s new Field Manager, Noel Maso on the morning of 6 March who said he would attend to the problem immediately.
