Panorama athletes shine at D12 champs

WELTEVREDEN PARK – These young athletes have been unbeatable so far.

Panorama Primary School athletes did their school proud at the recent D12 championships held at Ruimsig Stadium on 19 February.

The D12 championships are the inter-school athletic meeting of all Roodepoort primary schools, including Kagiso Primary School in Dobsonville.

“So far throughout the athletic season, these young athletes have been unbeatable,” boasted the primary school’s athletics coach, Leon Griffiths.

At Ruimsig, Panorama Primary School pupil Kayden Van Lendt broke the record for the high jump with 1.27m. The boys’ U10 record stood at 1.26m for nine years before Van Lendt’s impressive feat. He also took first place in the 70m hurdles.

Michael Onyilimba won the 60m and 80m sprints in the U9 category, while Tabiso Ngwenya won his 1200m race in the boys’ U10 category. Isadore Pieterse won the boys’ U11 high jump.

Chanice Jim not only took first place in the girls’ U12 75m hurdles, but also in the 100m sprints in the same category.

“We are exceptionally proud of these young athletes,” said principal Graeme Moodie. “Their hard work and dedication is really paying off.”

The next round of the championships took place on 1 and 2 March in Pretoria at the Elsie De Villiers Stadium.
