ANC slams DA manifesto
Local ANC branch stands critical of economic promises DA has made.
The DA recently launched their election manifesto in Polokwane and within days the local Ward 70 branch contacted the Record wanting to comment on it.
In discussion with the Record the ANC’s Branch Executive Committee Member (BEC) Rupert September heavily criticised four points of the DA’s manifesto, especially pertaining to economic improvements.
“The DA says if they win these elections, they will grow the economy at eight per cent per annum over the next 10 years and that will create six million real jobs, but that is a pipedream.
“This is not possible based on gross domestic product (GDP) statistics over the last 20 years, as our economy has grown at an average of 3,8 per cent per annum over the same period. Many economists are forecasting a growth rate of three and four per cent over the next 10 years. One also should remember that South Africa’s economy is part of the ‘fragile five’ economies of the world, being Brazil, Indonesia, India, Turkey and South Africa,” says September.
“Secondly they say they can create seven million jobs through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). They are now talking our language, but when the President announced it they dismissed as a stupid thing to do. One suspects that this is the DA’s ploy of bringing back worker exploitations through the back door. How else will they achieve this other than through paying workers exploitative wages, creating more ‘kitchen girls’ and ‘garden boys’ as they used to call our mothers and fathers and firing and hiring workers at will? This shows the intent of this party – reversing the gains made by the ANC on behalf of the workers of this country,” September continues.
