Don't miss big names, great talent and a benefit concert at Tanz Live this week.

Woes Rand — Besides being able to spend a relaxed Saturday night at Tanz Live in Blackheath to support local music, this week you have the opportunity to support a benefit concert for cancer. The Hot Rocket Battle of the Bands competition is also packing heat, so don’t miss out. Tanz Live is located in the Heathway Shopping Centre at the corner of Beyers Naudé and Castle Hill Drives. Saturday 1 March

Brent Harris and Thee Jam and the Sextons will entertain the crowds this Saturday. Frontman Brent will delight residents with his raspy voice, vulnerable tones and irrefutable talent on the drums. He delivers an ever-impressive drum solo that incorporates the clever use of water and lights. Entrance on Saturday is free of charge. The doors will open at 6 pm and the show starts at 8.30pm.

Tuesday 4 March

Stewart Irving hosts a benefit concert for his grandson Zach. Residents’ contributions will make a positive difference with absolutely awesome music to boot. Enjoy musicians with true heart and soul, including Clint Cunningham, Ghapi and Alter Irving. Entrance costs R60 per person and the doors open at 6pm. The show starts at 8pm.

Wednesday 5 March

Hot Rocket presents the Tanz Live Battle of the Bands, where talented bands stand the chance to win awesome prizes. Check out some of South Africa’s little-known rock bands battling it out for the first place and first prize. Four bands perform every week. Prizes are sponsored by Music Connection, Jack Daniels and Jägermeister as well as others. To enter for the competition, email Tony at tony.hotrocket@gmx.com. Entrance costs R40 per person or R30 if you’re on the guest list. The doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.

Thursday 6 March

You can’t miss a gig where such talents as the Graeme Watkins Project, Lonehill Estate, Shaun Jacobs and The Illustrators are set to play. The Graeme Watkins Project brings you an edgy and rough approach to a medley of pop, indie, rock and electronic genres, while Lonehill Estate pokes fun at politics and the music industry with mischievous rock. The Illustrators are a quirky duo with great hyperpop mash-ups. Tickets are R60 per person when bought online and R80 per person at the door. The doors open at 6pm and the show kicks up at 8pm.
