Pole dancers again raise money for charity

Local studio raises nearly R7 000 for distressed animals.

Roodepoort — Professional pole dancer Linda Kumm along with a team of about 20 male and female performers again raised eyebrows after raising nearly R7 000 for charity.

What is known as the second annual charity showcase, the Art of Pole and Sensual Fitness Studio in Roodepoort managed to raise a total of R6 590 at the Berario Recreation Centre during mid February.

All proceeds went to the Society of Animals in Distress (SAID) – an NPO that offers professional veterinary care to domestic animals from eight townships north and north-east of Johannesburg.

This follows the around R3 000 that Linda and her dedicated pole dancers had raised and donated to the SPCA in Midrand last year.

The non-profit organisation thanked the pole dancers for their compassion and support, stating in a letter that, “Their support enables us to reach and assist more township animals. Thank you so much.”

The Art of Pole and Sensual Fitness Studio is said to be Roodepoort’s leading pole dance fitness school where women are taught how to pole dance in a fun and exciting way. While pole dancing is considered sensual, Linda says , “There is no nudityor stripping involved.

“Pole dancing is strictly an acrobatic dance discipline and a form of performing art as well as a combination of dancing, acrobatics and gymnastics. We teach and promote pole dance as a form of fitness and all our events are for all ages, yet parents or legal guardians’ consent will be needed.Pole dancing requires significant strength, flexibility, fitness and endurance. It also tones the body and provides a full body workout, stretching techniques, strength training and fat-burning, cardio-vascular exercises.”

Besides being a professional pole fitness instructor, Linda is the owner of the local studio, co-founder of the South African Pole Dance Fitness Association (SAPDFA), a choreographer and professional pole fitness judge.

Linda is also head of the Pole Dance Division of the Dance Masters Association of South Africa (DMASA) and organiser of the annual Dance Awards, regionals and South African Nationals.

Her experience in the field is quite impressive, which includes a long list of qualifications and a number of titles in competitions dating back to 2007.
