Musical tuition with a difference

Smith and Trump Music and Arts Collective opens in Amorosa

Amorosa residents have started the new year on a slightly sweeter note.

This is thanks to the music school, Smith and Trump Music and Arts Collective which has opened in January in the suburb.

The school was opened by Marco Smith and Mark Trump, who have a combined experience of 24 years in performing and tuition in the music industry.

“Our big vision is to give children the musical experience of a lifetime, by creating a musical environment in which they can find themselves,” said Smith who used to teach guitar and piano at North-West University. “We focus solely on our students as individuals with individual needs, and we cater for those needs in order to see them grow as capable musicians.”

Trump continued, “We felt limited with the normal one-on-one way music is taught and knew we could do more for those with a passion for music and a yearning to learn. Thus we approached the idea of this music school holistically, to be performance driven with a strong basis in musical theory.” Trump has played drums for 28 years, has a diploma in performance and is currently doing a dissertation in musical education.

The school, which boasts accreditation by Trinity College in London, offers a variety of music lessons, including drumming, guitar and piano by qualified music tutors at highly affordable rates. Vocal training, violin and flute lessons are also available.

Many studies have proven the benefits of teaching a child to play a musical instrument. These include increased self-confidence, enhanced hand-eye coordination, improved motor skills as well as spatial reasoning – the ability to mentally manipulate two or three-dimensional objects.

“We want to provide a comprehensive programme graded and diploma education that promotes the highest levels of professional development while challenging our students to achieve their greatest potential,” said Trump.
