Sasha to step out of spotlight in 2014?

"I'll be putting my all into my matric year."

For at least a year, Miss Teen Queen of the Universe of 2013/2014, Sasha Taylor will trade the spotlight for a chair in the library.

This comes after the 2014 head girl at Victory House Private School and well-known local model indicated that she will abandon the limelight in favour of her studies for the time being. However, she made it clear that she will remain dedicated to helping others and continue her duties that goes with the title wherever she can.

“I’ll be putting my all into my matric year,” Sasha said.

“I, however, still will be visiting schools around South Africa, judge beauty pageants, raise funds, do charity work and motivate the youth always to do their best. If your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough – always keep on dreaming.”

With her modelling career put on hold for now, Sasha mentioned to the Record some of her outstanding achievements and moments in what can be described as a very successful modelling career so far.

For starters, leading up to Miss Teen Queen of the Universe – which was started by the very rich Donald Trump himself – Sasha raised over R400 000 for charities all over South Africa. She also just recently returned from working with East Coast Radio Station and judging beauty pageants along the South Coast. Sasha also was Miss Junior Teen SA of 2012/2013.

Even though it was tough at times working and being at school, there are some memories for Sasha that she describes as amazing.

“There actually are too many to mention, some of them include spending time and laughing with Jo-Ann Strauss, former Miss SA in Cape Town, jogging with another Miss SA, Melinda Bam in the Jacaranda 94.2 walk in Pretoria, meeting and working with all the Top Billing and Espresso presenters and actors, attending two You Spectacular functions, media launches, Kimberley Diamond Jubilee and many more.

“Helping the underprivileged and terminally ill people, funding and orphans education out of my own funds has made memories even more special,” she said.

Family close to Sasha explains, “Sasha always has gone the extra mile for children with cancer and does at least two Reach for a Dream functions a month.

“Organising these events are always the hardest, emotionally, as each time you never know if you will see some of the little faces again. Seeing little faces light up at you even if they have lost all their hair or have drips in their hands or are so sick that they have to be carried, shows the amount of courage these children have.”

In a closing statement Sasha wished the matric class of 2013 well for the future and emphasised the importance for the youth to vote after she was caught handing out pamphlets with DA Ward Councillor Dave Dewes at a recent voting station.
