100 per cent success rate for FLCC at Dusi

Shaun again crosses the finish line as top West Rander.

Local canoeists made Roodepoort proud with the Florida Lake Canoe Club’s (FLCC) 100 per cent success rate at this year’s 120km three-day Dusi.

Club spokesperson Jennie Dallas confirmed that, “All FLCC canoeists crossed the finish line successfully including first-year novices and the community youth development team.”

Shaun Maphanga, who is a groundsman and committee member of FLCC again did not disappoint as he was the first among the FLCC members and first West Rander to cross the finish line in 56th place overall with an impressive time of nine hours and 36 minutes. He partnered with Nkosi Mzolo from Soweto.

Jennie explained further that, “Shaun who was looking good on day two and actually leading the FLCC team to a top 30 finish overall stumbled on the final day after experiencing some unexpected boat damage”.

Other good results for FLCC came from Serge van Hee and partner Jeromy Dacey who managed 72nd place in a time of nine hours and 56 minutes. They too had their share of challenges along the route.

Gregg McWilliams with Conrad Durand – a Florida and Krugersdorp combination – finished in 225th place with a time of 11 hours and 34 minutes.
