Public participation encouraged in water use licence application

Draft Basic Assessment Reports available for public review.

The basic assessments and water use licence applications for the proposed prevention of water ingress into mined-out areas in the Witwatersrand mining basin is currently available for public scrutiny.

The areas affected will be Durban Deep, the Elsburgspruit stream and the New Canada Dam stream.

The company who made the assessments, Zitholele Consulting has made the Draft Basic Assessment Reports (DBAR) for the above-mentioned proposed projects available for review and comments by the public.

The DBARs are available from 31 January to 11 March. This is 40 calendar days as prescribed by legislation.

The DBAR for the Durban Deep project can be viewed at the Witpoortjie Library at 22 Payne Street. The contact person is Marlene Botha on 011 762 1417. The DBAR for the New Canada project can be viewed at the Bosmont Library (Contact person: Phathiswa Mnqinana on 011 474 2836) or at the Riverlea Library at the corner of Colorado Drive and Avon Street (Contact person: John Kith on 011 474 2968).
