Licensing department not responsible for car guards

The Licensing Department and JMPD refuses responsibility for the overwhelming car guards outside the premises.

Residents are complaining about the car guards that work around the premises of the Roodepoort Licensing Department in Florida.

According to resident Faan Venter, these car guards overwhelmed him and his wife when they visited the department to renew their licenses.

“They do not look to be registered car guards that officially work for the department,” said Venter, adding that there were about ten to fifteen male car guards working around the parking lot of the premises.

“My wife and I were basically forced to pay them something to exit the parking grounds when we left.

“We’re elderly folks and felt intimidated so we were left with no choice but to do so.

“I’d just like to know what the Department does about these situations.”

According to one of the floor managers of the Department, nothing is actually done about the car guards outside.

“They’re not officially in our employ,” he said, confirming that they’re informal entrepreneurs of sorts.

He asked the journalist what she proposes should be done in a hopeless manner and referred the Record to “the management”. The woman also refused to comment and referred the Record to Wayne Minnaar, JMPD spokesperson.

Minnaar refused the JMPD’s responsibility over these car guards, again confirming that they’re not under the employ of the department.

Minnaar disagreed with the journalist when she suggested that the car guards, although not in their employ, are becoming their problem.

“They are not in our control,” he kept saying.

“My suggestion to anyone that feels they were harassed or intimidated or physically assaulted by such a car guard is to go to their nearest police station and lay charges against them.”

No further comment about the specific allegations was granted.
