Athletics cancelled, plane crashes and waterfall floods

An athletics meeting between eight schools scheduled for 3 February at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium has been cancelled due to heavy rain.
From the early hours of Monday morning, Gauteng has experienced heavy rainfall that not only lead to chaos on the roads, but the cancellation of school activities.
Heavy traffic, flooding and even a plane that crashed at Lanseria Airport in which two people allegedly have died, also can be added to the list of devastation that the rain has caused. On Friday (31 January) an athletics event hosted by Hoërskool Florida against two other competing schools also had to be cancelled owing to the rain.
According to the South African Weather Service rainfall probability in Johannesburg today is 100 per cent with the amount of rainfall predicted to be 20mm. This is an increase of 40 per cent from the 60 per cent predicted last week. However, no rainfall is predicted for tomorrow (Tuesday 4 February).
Roodepoort Primary and Unified were supposed to host the meeting. The participating schools would have been Panorama Primary, Ridgevale Primary, Laerskool Culembeeck Primary, Laerskool Roodebeeck, Unified, Roodepoort Primary, Laerskool Die Ruiter and Laerskool Gustav Preller.
According to Bongani Sibisi, media spokesperson of Unified, “The rain has made at Ruimsig Athletics Stadium made it impossible for us to continue.
“We have notified all participating schools and we will reschedule. A date has not been decided yet.”
