Cluster police hold crime prevention operation
ROODEPOORT - Honeydew, Randburg, Douglasdale, Diepsloot, Florida and Roodepoort SAPS join forces.
Cluster police from Honeydew, Randburg, Douglasdale, Diepsloot, Florida and Roodepoort were out in full force on 1 February for a joint crime prevention operation.
At 2 pm, 93 police officers from the different sectors were briefed by Cluster Commander Orswald Reddy, who gave the order for his officers to achieve maximum success in every operation they partake in.
“All officers are to confiscate illegal firearms, drugs, counterfeit DVDs and liquor. Road blocks are to be set up in strategic places in accordance with Metro police to search for those with unpaid traffic fines and other offences such as drunk drivers,” stated Reddy.
“We are also on the lookout for stolen property and especially suspicious vehicles. Use all your resources in order to get fruitful results,” he continued. “We want to make ourselves visible everywhere so that the criminals know we are out there, and the public knows we are here to protect them.”
The collective results of the operation are as follows:
• 2 shebeens closed down
• 20 people arrested for unpaid traffic offences
• 19 people arrested for drinking in public
• one person arrested for assaulting a police officer
• eight people arrested for drug possession
• two people arrested for being in possession of house break-in instruments
• four people arrested for being in possession of stolen property
• 242 counterfeit DVDs confiscated
• one person arrested for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm
• four suspects arrested house break-in and theft
• 12 knives confiscated
