Cansa’s Shavathon 2014 bigger than ever
Manny de Freitas says that residents should get ready for Cansa Shavathon in February and March.
It’s time once again to ‘get your shave on’ as the Cansa Shavathon approaches, said Ronelle Vermaak, Cansa’s Western Gauteng Regional Manager on Thursday 30 January.
The Cancer Association of South Africa’s (Cansa) governor Manny de Freitas said that to him it feels almost unbelievable that Cansa is preparing to host its 11th annual National Cansa Shavathon.
“Cansa plans on making this year’s Shavathon the biggest yet!”
As previously, schools, corporates and organisations will be given the opportunity to host their own Shavathon events between 24 and 28 February. Thereafter the official Cansa Shavathon events will take place at shopping centres across the country on Saturday 1 March.
The cost to shave your hair, donate a ponytail or spray it with various bright colours (that can easily be washed off) will be R50 per adult and R25 per child younger than 12.
“Ponytail donations received by Cansa are handmade into wigs for cancer patients who have lost their hair as a result of their cancer treatment.
“Great pride is taken in making the wigs to ensure that the wig is as natural looking as possible.
“To donate a ponytail your hair must be at least 22 centimetres long and must be clean and dry.
“Shaving or spraying your hair is a visual sign of solidarity with those who have undergone or are undergoing cancer therapy when they lose their hair.”
Instead of shaving, cutting or spraying your hair, you can buy a Cansa Wrap for your hair this year for a mere R50.
