Save power or be left in the dark
Eskom urges the public to help bear the load.
Eskom asked consumers on Monday 20 January to use electricity sparingly.
With pupils returning to school and many workplaces retaining their full staff, the daily electricity demand has risen significantly.
The energy provider requests that customers try to keep demand as low as possible while they continue with planned maintenance.
Eskom says that there is enough power for the coming week. A few generating units that were under maintenance recently have come into use again and are relieving the pressure on the system. Despite this, unplanned outages still will occur.
The power system is expected to remain tight until a new generating capacity is active and the essential maintenance is done.
Until such time, switch off unnecessary lights, the geyser, pool pump and appliances that are not being used.
