Roodepoort’s racer girl

STRUBENS VALLEY - Jenna Eekhout holds her own in a man's world

Jenna Eekhout (16) from Strubens Valley is making a name for herself as the only girl to be racing in this year’s 250 class of the Northern Regions Racing Championship.

Eekhout, a Grade 10 pupil at Brandcliff House School in Fairlands, began racing in 2010 in the Honda NSF100 Series. By 2012 she had moved on to Honda 150 Cup. Last year she began racing in the 250 class of the Northern Regions Racing Championship on a Kawasaki Ninja 250R Cup, one of only two girls taking part.

“I love the adrenaline rush I get from the speed,” said Eekhout. “It’s a challenge for me to beat the boys. It’s more than just a hobby for me, ultimately I want to encourage other ladies to also begin racing.”

Eekhout is hoping for top-notch finishes this year, aiming to be placed in the top five positions of every race. Her tenacity remains unbridled, despite a crash in October last year that left her severely concussed and in hospital for days.

Eekhout is currently seeking sponsorship for this year’s racing season to help her reach her dream of becoming the first female rider to take the title in her class.
