Ronél Vermaak from Cansa’s West Rand branch warns that residents should remain sun-smart in 2014.
“Parents in particular should be sure to apply sunscreen to their children every morning now that school has started again,” Vermaak told the Record.
This should be made easier by looking out for the Cansa Sun-Smart Choice Seal when buying safe sunblock lotions, she explained.
A flyer that Vermaak shared with the Record reads, “we’ve looked on the inside, you look on the outside”. The flyer was made to promote the Seal as an aid when purchasing the Cansa-approved sunscreen most suitable to a specific family’s needs.
“Cansa has created the Cansa Sun-Smart Choice Seal to help consumers identify sunscreens that comply with prevailing SABS and international standards, are approved by independent testing laboratories and promote responsible sunning habits,” it states.
“Legislated sunscreen standards are upgraded regularly in keeping with ongoing research.”
Vermaak expressed her concern about the alarming and ever-growing skin cancer statistics in South Africa.
“Be on the lookout for sunscreen with the Cansa Seal – it’s the sun-smart thing to do.”
