Residents report but City remains toothless
City seems unable to address problem neighbour.
The residents of Nuweveld Avenue, Quellerina, have run out of options as far as trying to make a neighbour change his alleged illegal ways.
According to Hannes Britz the renting tenant (allegedly a foreigner) of the house in Nuweveld Avenue moved in about six months ago. Initially they thought that the small heaps of sand on the pavement opposite his house were just for his personal use and that he probably was doing renovations or extending the buildings.
But the heaps of sand grew and soon building rubble also appeared. Lately trucks are driving up and down at all hours of the day loading or unloading, since it seems that the rubble is processed and used on other sites.
Residents have reported it to different departments and approached the tenant but to no avail. In one incident he allegedly became aggressive when someone wanted to take a picture of the rubble and material outside the property.
Furthermore he is using council land and a conservation area to do his business.
Councillor for the area, Ingrid Reinten, says she is fully aware of the problem and has reported it on numerous occasions. She says that Building Control, JMPD and City Parks have confronted the man but that he only said that he had received permission from the City – which is far from the truth, according to Reinten.
