Tips to keep you and your family safe
JOBURG - EMS spokesperson urges residents to remember important emergency services numbers.
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi shared safety tips which residents should remember over the holiday period.
“The festive season is the busiest season of the year especially for emergency services staff as we respond to numerous incidents that range from fires, vehicle accidents, drownings and flooding incidents,” he said. ”Most of these incidents can be avoided if communities are informed as to how they can look after themselves.”
He said residents should remember the emergency numbers 10177 and 112. Parents have the responsibility of looking after their children, to ensure that they are never left unsupervised.
“Never leave candles unattended and avoid using candle holders, people should instead use old mayonnaise bottles filled with sand.” He added that if a person was engulfed in flames it was important for him or her to cover their faces and drop to the ground and roll.
“Never panic and run while on fire as this might fuel the fire and make it stronger.” Mulaudzi concluded that people who cannot swim and small children should stay away from swimming pools.
