I have been living in a complex in Weltevreden Park for seven years. Throughout my time here, all residents in the complex have always respected all their animals as well as other people’s animals and have never lit fireworks. However, this last 31 December 2013 my direct neighbours and others started lighting fireworks. I approached them and asked them to please stop. They simply laughed and proceeded with their fireworks until 2am. Honeydew Police Station did not even bother to send a vehicle out. What gets to me is that the SPCA are so quick to put notices in the paper saying that it is not allowed and if one notices any neighbours that light fireworks, one should contact the police. Why bother putting it in the paper when they do not even come out?

I would like to say to my neigbours (you know who you are): What you did was disgusting and disrespectful to other people around you and to the animals in the complex. The fact that I am renting does not give you, an owner, the right to do what you did. Is this what you teach your children?
