1963 – The Beatles’ I Want to Hold Your Hand and I Saw Her Standing There are released in the United States, marking the beginning of Beatlemania on an international level.

1995 – South African cricket player, Paul “Gogga” Adams, became South Africa’s youngest Test Cricket player, when he featured in his first test debut at the age of 18 years and 340 days. Adams represented South Africa in One Day International matches played from 26 to 30 December against England in Port Elizabeth.

1996 – Six-year old beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey is found beaten and strangled in the basement of her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. Her body was found in the basement of the family home about eight hours after she was reported missing during a police search of her home.

2004 – Tsunamis devastate large swathes of South and Southeast Asia. More than 125,000 people, including several South African tourists, are killed.

2012 – China opens the world’s longest high speed rail route from Beijing to Guangzhou.
