You don’t have to spend a fortune on fancy wrapping paper, ribbon and embellishments for beautifully packaged gifts. With a bit of creativity, simple, inexpensive brown paper can make for fabulous Christmas wrapping.
Wrap all your gifts in brown paper. Then cut a simple shape, like a heart or diamond out of Christmas wrapping paper. Attach a shape to each package and finish with some string.
Give brown paper the polka dot treatment. Choose one colour; red or white work well, and using paint or ink, stamp dots all over the brown paper. After wrapping your gifts with this paper, add ribbon in the same colour as the dots for a totally cute package.
Use white paper doilies to decorate brown paper packages.
After wrapping your gifts in brown paper, secure a few strings of wool in different colours around each package.
For a natural look, slip a small plant cutting, leaving and seeds under some twine tied around brown paper wrapped gifts.
Layer washi tape (or for a more budget friendly option – brightly coloured masking tape) in alternating horizontal and vertical strips over brown paper wrapped gifts.
Create a Christmas light garland that looks like its strung across the package. Make a lightbulb-shaped stamp from a wine cork by cutting away the sides with a craft knife so that you are left with a pointed oval shape. Brush a light coat of paint onto the lightbulb portion of the stamp then firmly press it onto the brown paper wrapped gift. Continue adding stamped bulbs in a line, alternating colours, until the design stretches from one end of the package to the next. Allow paint to dry then draw string with a permanent marker, connect the light bulbs.
