Home decorating this festive season

Here are some tips to decorate your home.

Get excited about Christmas by filling your home with festive décor.

Add colour to your front door, a wreath and garland is all it takes to give the entrance to your home some festive punch! If your wreath has seen better days, spruce it up by tucking in spray painted twigs or adding tinsel or ribbon.

Fill all the vases, pots and vessels that you already have on display on your kitchen counter, sideboard, coffee tables and nights stands with red and white flowers.

Don’t allow those pretty Christmas cards to pile up. Turn them into decorations by stapling cards to lengths of ribbon and hanging them in spots that could do with brightening up like along the stairwell or over an entryway mirror.

Tie a bow around your scatter cushions with red, green and white ribbons – they will look just like Christmas gifts.

Instead of stockings, decorate clean, empty cans with Christmas paper, ribbons and bows and line them on a table.

Stack red, white, or green bath towels, then tie together with coordinating ribbon and place in your guest bathroom or powder room.

Replace pictures on your walls with Christmas-inspired artwork. This can be as simple as slipping Christmas wrapping paper, Christmas cards or your child’s Christmas artwork into your frames.

Spray paint a blank canvas in any colour that cathes your fancy, then stencil or stamp snowflakes, stars, or other festive motifs and hang on a bare wall.

Use inexpensive plastic urns that may be purchased from garden and hardware stores to create beautiful Christmas features to place at the entrance or dot around your home. Place a tall foam cone in each urn, anchor it with sand, then use florist sticks and wire to attach baubles, Christmas decorations and greenery.

Give traditional paper chains a cool, meatlic update. Instead of using paper, fashion foil into links to create chains and drape them around your home for some festive sparkle.
