A champion on the bike

POORTVIEW - Thirteen-year-old Poortview rider takes first place at Moto3.

Passionate about bikes and speed, Troy Bezuidenhout of Poortview was the happiest 13-year-old in the world when he won the Northern Region Moto3 championship on 23 November in Welkom, Free State.

Bezuidenhout is the youngest rider in the Moto3 class, and possibly the youngest Moto3 champion in the world.

He attributes his achievement to hard work. “I prepared myself very well, gave four hours of training each day to make sure that I win my races.”

The competition was not easy and compromised of eight challenging rounds. “I won my first round very easily but I had a set back on the second round because my motorbike crashed.” Despite this setback, and a small drop in confidence,

Bezuidenhout still managed to occupy second place. “Every time I win a race it gives me confidence and that keeps me moving forward.”

Bezuidenhout draws inspiration from his father, Charles, who is a former South African MotoX champion. His father also plays an important role in mentoring him. “He trained me to ride and also shared riding techniques.”

Bezuidenhout has also been trained by the California Superbike School. From here forward, he plans on competing in and winning international races.
