Honeydew youngster Brandon Weir (11) looks up to former World Number One golf champion Rory Mcllroy as his role model.
Coming from a sporty background, Weir followed in the footsteps of his parents and he is determined to be one of the best golfers in the world.
This year he has seen much success. In October he played in the Eagle Canyon Junior Club Championships where he won the B division. He took part in the Young Golfers Tournament and came first in the 10-12 years age division. Weir also became the best overall skills champion at Eagle Canyon Skills Competition.
In December this year he will represent Central Gauteng at the Inter-Provincial Primary Schools Golf Championships in Secunda.
For six years in a row Weir has managed to qualify for the World Championships. In June next year he will be taking part in the European Junior Championships in Gullane, Scotland and in August he will compete in the World Junior Championships held in the USA.
The Grade 5 pupil is home-schooled and his favourite subject is maths. When he is not on the golf course, where he spends four hours each day, he is swimming and spending time with friends.
