West Rand Toastmasters meet at Florida Park Tennis Club

Budding young public speaker honoured.

The West Rand branch of Toastmasters International held their last meeting for the year on 21 November at the Florida Park Tennis Club.

After greetings and salutations by president Mra Khwar Nyo, speeches were given by members competing for the title of Best Speaker. This was won by Curtis Kester, whose speech, The Cookie, was formulated from the Competent Communicator manual (a Toastmasters handbook which helps members become proficient in public speaking).

The title for Best Contributor went to Toastmaster Helga Weiland, while Lynnette Greenwood won for Best Evaluator. The word for the evening was ‘holiday’, for which each speaker earned extra points if they incorporated the word into their speech.

The West Rand Toastmasters Club will be holding their annual Christmas function on 5 December at the Meet and Eat Restaurant in Horizon Village Shopping Centre. This year’s event promises to be a thrilling night of intrigue, mystery and fun in the roaring ’20s and prohibition era style.
