Turnaround plan for JMPD 10+ to be implemented
Councillors team up to make JMPD tow the line.

Region B DA Councillors took a stand recently against the dismal service offered by JMPD in wards in this region, according to Ward 86 Ward Councillor Steve Kotzé.
Ever since the implementation of the 10+ initiative, councillors and residents have been complaining about the spectacular failure of this initiative.
According to Kotzé there are exceptions to the rule and some officers have done good work. The issue the councillors have tackled though is the general ineffectiveness of the JMPD 10+ teams.
Councillors allegedly also placed the problem squarely at the door of the Regional JMPD Commander.
Kotzé explained their experience to the Record.
“The MMC for Public Safety, Selle Lemao, called an urgent meeting for councillors, JMPD top brass and the Regional Director, Vicky Shuping.
“In the meeting all issues were unpacked and the following eight-point plan was proposed as the way forward:
• JMPD chain of command to be clearly identified and communication with councillors to improve
• Names and contact details of JMPD commander and ward teams to be provided, including shift roster
• JMPD to be adequately resourced with radios in cars, portable radios, cellphones and airtime
• Compulsory participation and report-back by JMPD at CPFs, ward councillors monthly forums and ward committee meetings
• Better training on by-laws
• JMPD Region B to develop an operations and reporting plan to suit local conditions in conjunction with councillors and other stakeholders
• JMPD to be visible and accessible in the wards
• JMPD officers to be dropped off at certain points in wards to do traffic control and by-law enforcement on foot
A new JMPD Hotline contact number, 011 758 9621/2/3/4 or 9650, was also established,” says Kotzé.
Kotzé also told the Record that he and his Region B colleagues hoped to communicate this to Region C councillors in order for them to have it enforced where needed.
“True to form though, no implementation date has been offered by JMPD yet but we will push for this and monitor the roll-out,” added Kotzé.
