Woman of Substance ambassadors honoured

"A night that will remain in our memories forever."

More than 200 distinguished guests arrived at Silverstar Casino in Muldersdrift for a good cause during late November to support the Woman of Substance (WOS) Charity Ball.

The event, held in honour of the Woman of Substance ambassadors, sponsors and the Roodepoort Child and Family Welfare Society was attended by several prominent corporate companies such as Clover SA, Sandown Mercedes-Benz, Monument Toyota, Action Ford, University of Johannesburg (UJ), Kia Motors and many local Roodepoort residents.

Managing Director of Pennylane Productions, Charlotte du Plessis described the occasion as a “night that will remain in our memories forever”.

“The purpose of the evening was to honour the Child Welfare Roodepoort social workers who work relentlessly to save vulnerable children from threatening circumstances and keep them safe.

“The funds raised during the project will be used to help them sustain the amazing work they are doing.”

“The evening was also to award the Ambassadors who have given of their time to raise much needed funds. Funds raised during the project, which is a collective effort of the WOS ambassadors and the WOS project team will be donated to Child Welfare Roodepoort,” Du Plessis added.

The WOS title winner for 2013 was Kim Ike while Agigil Kokone was named first runner-up, and Thea van der Nest was announced second runner-up. The prizes were a four-night stay at Ndumu River Lodge and lots of hampers, but the most important was the sterling silver orchid pendant designed and manufactured by Alex Hyslop, which Kim Ikel won.

Du Plessis said that the project was running until Friday 6 December and that an official handover would be done to Child Welfare Roodepoort on that occasion.

Silverstar Casino sponsored the venue while Pep was a Bronze Sponsor (R12 500).

Du Plessis concluded by saying, “We would like to encourage all companies to get involved. Corporate sponsorship packages are available. Further information can be found on the Woman of Substance website www.womanofsubstance.co.za.

“Next year is going to be bigger and better.”
