Another accident occurred due to wet roads on the late evening of Wednesday 27 November.
At around 8.30 while a City Power truck was travelling along Ontdekkers Road towards Johannesburg, a white bakkie waited to turn right from Ontdekkers Road into Conrad Street.
As the traffic light turned orange, the bakkie turned and the truck tried to slow down, but it skidded on the wet road. It then collided with the bakkie’s left front side after which it overturned on the embankment between Ontdekkers Road and its service road. JMPD officers on scene confirmed the details of the accident.
The truck driver and his one passenger were relatively unharmed after the incident, but eyewitnesses said the motorist was rushed to hospital by Netcare 911 paramedics. They said that ambulances from both Netcare 911 and ER24 were on scene, and that the person travelling in the bakkie was injured seriously. Family on scene confirmed that the injured motorist is business owner Hugo Roodt of Roodt Meat in Florida.
Santi Steinmann, Netcare 911 spokesperson, confirmed that one patient was transported to Life Flora Clinic with critical injuries.
“We’re not yet sure what his condition is today,” Pierre van Rensburg at Roodt Meat told the Record on Thursday 28 November, saying that the family would meet with the doctor at 11am.
